Guadalupe Collision Results in Hazmat Response

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, CA (May 16, 2025) — A head-on traffic collision involving a tractor and a U-Haul trailer occurred Thursday morning around 8:50 a.m. on northbound State Route 1 at Division Street in Guadalupe.

The collision prompted and emergency response from multiple agencies, including the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the fire department, and environmental health officials.

According to CHP dispatch logs, the crash blocked northbound lanes and forced traffic to divert onto Division Street. Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene, with the fire department confirming the incident involved minor injuries.

Shortly after the collision, authorities reported a hydraulic fluid spill—an estimated 4 gallons—onto the surrounding soil. While there was no impact to nearby waterways, the fluid release triggered a hazmat response. The spill was quickly contained, and San Luis Obispo County Environmental Health was notified to dispatch an inspector to assess the site.

Caltrans was also contacted to assist with traffic control due to the lane closures. A tow was requested for the tractor involved, and recovery operations were underway by late morning.
