Three Vehicles Involved in 55 Freeway Crash in OC

SANTA ANA, Calif. (May 20, 2025) — A rollover crash on the southbound 55 Freeway near Irvine Boulevard caused significant traffic delays Monday afternoon near Santa Ana and Tustin in Orange County.

Several lanes were blocked for nearly 30 minutes due to the 1:49 p.m. crash on May 20th, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

A white Kia SUV overturned in the middle lanes, and a gray Lexus sustained major front-end damage. Meanwhile, a white Honda Civic also sustained moderate rear damage, and a tow truck was requested for each of the vehicles involved.

Emergency responders, including fire crews and paramedics, arrived quickly at the scene. One male occupant became trapped in the overturned Kia. CHP issued a SigAlert shortly before 2:00 p.m., closing the Nos. 1, 2, and 3 lanes.

Dog Escapes Crashed Vehicle Running on Freeway

Additionally, the CHP report also reported that a brown poodle got loose from one of the vehicles and was running across the freeway lanes shortly after the crash. This prompted concern from passing drivers and emergency personnel. The animal was last seen running near the southbound 55 transition to the southbound 5 Freeway, but it’s unknown if they caught the dog.

Finally, authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
