Major Injury Oildale Crash at Manor Street and China Grade Loop

KERN COUNTY, Calif. (May 21, 2025) — Three people were seriously injured Tuesday night after a speeding driver crashed into their SUV at Manor Street and China Grade Loop.
Speeding Driver Hits SUV at Oildale Intersection
The two-vehicle collision occurred around 7 p.m. on May 20th, according to the California Highway Patrol and Kern County Sheriff’s Office.
Several others were injured when a driver crashed into the SUV occupied by two adults and five children between one and 10 years old, according to Bakersfield Now.
Investigators reported the driver who caused the crash had just exited the nearby Lerdo Jail property where he had bypassed security before leaving the property. It’s unknown why he was at the detention center or why he was speeding away from it.
Authorities say the motorist reached a high rate of speed while driving eastbound on China Grade Loop toward Manor Street. He then crashed into the SUV occupied by seven people.
3 Suffer Major Injuries in Oildale Collision
Paramedics responded and transported three people to a hospital with major injuries. One of them was the suspect who has not been identified. The others injured in the crash included an adult and child from the SUV.
The incident at the detention center remains under investigation by the Kern County Sheriff’s Office. Meanwhile, the CHP is handling the investigation into the collision.
