Fatal Crash Shuts Down Eastbound State Route 152

Los Banos, CA (May 22, 2025) — A fatal crash early Thursday morning closed a portion of eastbound State Route 152 just east of Interstate 5, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision occurred around 4:49 a.m. on May 22nd, with initial reports indicating a vehicle overturned on its side near the northbound I-5 interchange.

One Confirmed Dead in Los Banos Crash

Meanwhile, emergency responders arrived at 5:32 a.m., and CHP confirmed the incident as a fatality. The coroner was called shortly after.

CHP officers and Caltrans crews shut down multiple lanes to manage the scene and assess damage. A nearby guardrail on northbound I-5 sustained significant impact, and a light pole was damaged, leaving the area without lighting. Five wooden posts were also broken.

Towing services were dispatched, and evidence was collected as part of the investigation.

The CHP has not released the identity of the victim, pending notification of their next of kin and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
