Head-On Collision Closes Highway 12, Near Duer Road in Sebastopol

One Person Trapped | Major Injury Crash on SR-12 in Sonoma County

SONOMA COUNTY, Calif. (August 8, 2025) — A head-on crash on Highway 12 near Duer Road Friday morning in Sebastopol shut down the roadway in both directions, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The August 8th collision was reported at around 9:45 a.m. in the westbound lanes of SR-12 or Sebastopol Avenue near a local strawberry stand. Initial reports described a gray Toyota Tundra pickup truck and a silver 2016 Honda CR-V were involved, with one of the vehicles towing a trailer. CHP later confirmed the crash was blocking both eastbound and westbound lanes.

Fire crews and emergency medical personnel arrived to find a woman trapped in a vehicle. Rescue operations were underway, and CHP requested an indefinite closure of Highway 12 while crews worked at the scene. A passenger from one of the vehicles was transported to Kaiser with major injuries.

The report also stated that the driver of the Toyota pickup truck with the last name Gorris was taken to Kaiser Santa Rosa.

Witness reports indicated the silver SUV may have been driving recklessly before the crash.

“This stretch of Highway 12 is known for collisions like this one,” said Attorney James Johnson. “Investigators will need to find out if the at-fault driver was under the influence or distracted at the time of the crash.”

No details have been released regarding the extent of injuries or the total number of people involved. The cause of the collision is under investigation.
