SAN DIEGO: High-Speed Crash on State Route 163, Richmond Street

High-Speed Crash on SR-163 in Balboa Park Area
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Nov. 26, 2025) — A high-speed collision on northbound State Route 163 late Wednesday morning left at least one person injured and blocked a lane of traffic north of Richmond Street in San Diego.
The crash was reported on Nov. 26th at about 10:34 a.m. on SR-163 in the Balboa Park area between a red BMW sports car and a green Ford sedan, according to California Highway Patrol logs. Initial reports described a two-vehicle traffic collision with injuries and one person out of their vehicle.
CHP dispatchers later noted that the red vehicle had been stopped on the right-hand shoulder, partially blocking a lane, when the green vehicle, reported to be traveling at high speed, crashed into the rear of the stopped car.
The impact left the vehicles partially in the slow lane, prompting concerns about additional collisions. Fire crews responded and blocked the No. 2 lane while paramedics treated the injured party at the scene. An ambulance was requested, and at least one person was transported for further medical evaluation.
Tow trucks from Quality Towing and Recovery were called to remove the damaged vehicles from the freeway. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, including the role speed and lane blockage may have played in the collision.
