Victorville Man Identified as Motorist Killed on Sunday, Dec. 28th
ADELANTO, Calif. (Dec. 31, 2025) — Xavier I. Macias, 19, of Victorville, was killed Sunday afternoon in a fiery two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 395 near Adelanto that also left two others critically injured, authorities said.
The collision occurred on Dec. 28th at approximately 12:11 p.m. on southbound Highway 395 just south of Shadow Mountain Road, according to the San Bernardino County Fire Department. Firefighters arrived to find one of the vehicles, a Land Rover SUV, fully engulfed in flames.
Before first responders arrived, two bystanders stopped to help and were able to pull a male occupant from the burning vehicle, officials said. Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire and began providing emergency medical care to multiple victims.
Authorities said six people were involved in the crash. Macias was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other victims suffered life-threatening injuries and were listed in critical condition, while three additional people were treated for less severe injuries.
Two medical helicopters were requested to transport the critically injured patients to area trauma centers. The response included three fire engines, a battalion chief, multiple ground ambulances, and two air medical units.
The crash prompted a SigAlert at 1:04 p.m., shutting down both northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 395 for at least an hour.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the collision.
