Inyokern, Calif. (Jan. 2, 2026) — A head-on traffic collision involving two pickup trucks happened in the Inyokern area early Friday morning at Highway 14 and SR-178 in Kern County, authorities said.

The crash was reported on Jan. 2nd shortly after 5:30 a.m., according to a California Highway Patrol incident log. Initial reports described a head-on collision, with later information indicating two pickup trucks sustained major front-end damage. One vehicle was identified as a Honda Ridgeline that went off the roadway.

An alert from an in-vehicle OnStar system indicated that two parties were pinned inside their vehicles and that airbags had deployed. A caller told dispatchers he was trapped inside a truck and felt like he was going to pass out. Authorities noted the roadway was littered with debris, though the vehicles were not blocking lanes.

Emergency crews, including fire and medical personnel, were dispatched to the scene. Tow services were requested as part of the response. The extent of injuries and the number of patients transported were not immediately confirmed.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
