Four vehicles collide on the freeway in San Clemente

SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. (June 5, 2026) — A multi-vehicle collision involving at least four vehicles snarled traffic on southbound Interstate 5 near Avenida Vista Hermosa in San Clemente on Friday afternoon, authorities said.

The crash was reported on June 5th shortly after 1 p.m. about one mile south of Avenida Vista Hermosa, according to California Highway Patrol dispatch logs. Initial reports indicated a four-vehicle traffic collision involving a gray or off-white sedan, a sports car, and two additional vehicles.

Authorities later identified one of the involved vehicles as a gray Mercury Grand Marquis and another as a maroon Dodge Charger.

The collision blocked multiple lanes, including the HOV lane and at least one additional lane, causing traffic delays in the area.

Orange County Fire Authority crews were requested to respond after a reporting party asked for paramedics for two children inside one of the vehicles. Information regarding the severity of injuries was not immediately available.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
