Fatal Pedestrian Accident on Highway 85 near Camden Avenue, San Jose

SAN JOSE, Calif., (August 6, 2026) — A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle in San Jose early Thursday morning on southbound Highway 85 near the Camden Avenue offramp.
The tragic incident occurred on August 6th at approximately 1:36 a.m. when the driver told authorities that something had hit their vehicle while traveling in the slow lane. Upon investigation, it was revealed that a pedestrian had been walking in the slow lane against the flow of traffic.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), an off-duty officer witnessed the collision and reported the incident as a vehicle versus pedestrian accident. The pedestrian, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was lying in the slow lane when emergency services arrived.
The coroner was called to the scene shortly after, confirming the fatality. Traffic was subsequently diverted to the Camden Avenue offramp as authorities conducted their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Police are actively investigating the incident and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. It remains unclear why the pedestrian was walking on the highway at that early hour.
