Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway 101, Mathilda Avenue in Sunnyvale

SUNNYVALE, Calif., (August 23, 2026) — A collision involving a white Tesla and three other vehicles happened Sunday on U.S. Highway 101 near the Mathilda Avenue off-ramp in the Sunnyvale area.

The incident was reported around 3:50 p.m. on August 23rd and involved a series of crashes. First, the Tesla reportedly struck the center divider twice before colliding with three other vehicles, including a black Jeep Cherokee. The crash occurred in the southbound lanes of the highway just north of Mathilda Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Emergency services, including paramedics and towing units, were dispatched to the scene. The Tesla sustained major front-end damage, as did the Jeep. A gray Honda Accord and another unidentified white sedan were also involved in the incident.

Several lanes of traffic were blocked as responders worked to clear the vehicles and attend to any injured parties. However, it’s unknown how many people were injured in the collision. Lanes 1 through 3 were closed, with only lane 4 remaining open to traffic.

Finally, the incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, who are seeking any additional witnesses to come forward.
