DUI Suspect Struck, Killed Woman in West Covina

WEST COVINA, Calif. (Sept. 1, 2026) — Ashley Kilbourne, 36, was the cyclist who was struck and killed by a suspected DUI driver early Saturday at Amar Road and Leanna Drive in West Covina, police said.

The driver, Daniel Chavarin, 40, of Walnut, reportedly struck the victim and then ran from the scene of the crash around 4:47 a.m. on Aug. 29, according to the West Covina Police Department.

Sadly, the female cyclist suffered traumatic injuries and died at the scene.

Investigators working on the case eventually located the suspect, who was arrested and booked at the West Covina Police Department Jail. Daniel Chavarin is facing multiple charges, including vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run, and driving under the influence.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner later identified the victim who died at the scene from blunt force injuries as 36-year-old Ashley Kilbourne.
