3 Construction Workers Killed in Truck Accident on I-10 Freeway in Blythe

BLYTHE, CA (Sept. 28, 2026) – Three construction workers killed in a multi-vehicle crash early Friday on the Interstate 10 Freeway in Blythe have been identified.

The men who died were identified as 27-year-old Christopher Benavidez Guatemala, and 50-year-old Alfonso Vega Torres, both Coachella, and 39-year-old Francisco Morales Mendoza of Tonopah, Arizona, according to the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.

The deadly collision occurred around 5:15 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 25th, 2026, on the eastbound side of the I-10 freeway south of Intake Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Authorities say the eastbound semi-truck hit a parked attenuator construction vehicle and a stopped, unoccupied Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. Then the semi-truck hit a water truck, and somewhere in between all this, the three workers were struck and killed.

The 44-year-old Redlands man driving the truck also suffered severe injuries to his leg and head and was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.

Finally, the cause of the collision remained under investigation.
