3 Killed in Head-On Crash on Abbott Street in Salinas Identified

SALINAS, Calif., (October 7, 2026) — Three teenagers, including students attending UC Santa Cruz and UCLA, died Sunday night in a head-on collision on Abbott Street between US101 South and Harris Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Those who died were later identified by the Monterey County sheriff-coroner as UCLA student Abigail Tinoco, of Downey, 19, UC Santa Cruz student, Sebastian Burgos, 18, of Downey, and Noah Trevino,18, of Soledad, whose brother Nathan Trevino survived the crash with injuries.

The two-vehicle crash was reported on Oct. 4th at approximately 9:04 p.m. near the Firestone Business Park, according to the CHP report. The collision involved a white Honda CR-V SUV and a black Nissan Altima sedan, both of which were severely damaged in the impact.

Emergency personnel promptly responded to the scene, shutting down the intersection to manage the situation and ensure public safety.

One person was confirmed dead at the scene. Two others died after being transported to the hospital. Both vehicles had at least three occupants, and those who died came from both vehicles.

The drivers of both vehicles, who were age 20 and 21 years old, were among five who survived the crash. They were transported to Natividad Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.

The California Highway Patrol and local authorities coordinated efforts to clear emergency vehicles and allow media access to the site.

The investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the collision. Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant information to come forward and assist in the inquiry.

Those who would like to support the families of those who died may contribute to their GoFundMe pages: Abigail Tinco; Sebastian Burgos; and Noah Trevino.
