Several Vehicles Involved in Crash on Interstate 5 Freeway
SAN CLEMENTE, Calif., (Oct. 8, 2026) — A traffic collision involving multiple vehicles occurred Thursday on the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 near the San Onofre Nuclear Plant in San Clemente. The incident, which involved at least four vehicles, was reported on Oct. 8th around 8:24 a.m., and the extent of injuries remains unknown at this time.
According to preliminary information reported to the California Highway Patrol, the crash involved a large burgundy truck, two sedans, and an SUV, creating a significant blockage in lanes 3 and 4. Responding units arrived promptly at the scene, where all lanes had been temporarily stopped, and traffic was later redirected to manage the flow.
Emergency services were dispatched to the location, and a rotation request for towing services was made, indicating a significant front-end impact on at least one of the vehicles. As of 8:39 a.m., lanes 3 and 4 were reported to be shut down, with traffic being allowed to pass intermittently.
