Man, 21, Arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Marijuana Following Crash
SEBASTOPOL (January 16, 2018)- According to the Press Democrat, a woman remains in critical condition while a man is behind bars following a solo vehicle DUI collision Monday afternoon.
California Highway Patrol officials responded to the crash which occurred at 1:40 p.m. roughly on Mill Station Road near Occidental Road.
Preliminary investigative efforts read that the driver of a Buick, Thomas Henney, 21, had been driving while under the influence of marijuana accompanied by passenger Amanda Odeen, 18. As Henney continued along Mill Station Road, he suddenly swerved his vehicle to avoid hitting a cyclist forcing his vehicle to veer off the road and overturn.
Per the Press Democrat, Henney’s passenger, Amanda Odeen, suffered major injuries including an injury to her arm which was nearly amputated, according to CHP Officer Jon Sloat.
A group of Good Samaritans including the cyclist assisted in removing Odeen from the vehicle before an air ambulance helicopter landed. The 18-year-old teen was then taken to Memorial Hospital, where she remains in serious condition, according to reports.
Meanwhile, the vehicle’s driver, Henney, was arrested for driving under the influence and taken to Sonoma County Jail. He is currently being held on $100,000 bail.

Sonoma Personal Injury Accident Lawyer
Most auto accidents are preventable for as long as motorists practice road safety measures and obey the traffic laws. In this case, Thomas Henney is accused of impaired driving while under the influence of marijuana which is considered as a serious crime in California. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs has corresponding criminal penalties, and the kinds of the charges to be filed depend on factors including the prior convictions, if there are any, of the alleged DUI driver, the severity of the offense, the level of intoxication and the injuries caused to another individual.
It is apparent that Henney’s impaired driving resulted in the injuries incurred by Amanda Odeen. In this case, Odeen may file a personal injury lawsuit against her driver seeking compensation for all the hospital bills and medical expenses as well as pain and suffering endured.
