Bicyclist, 22, Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver Saturday
LOCATION: Clearlake, Lake County
DATE OF INCIDENT: Saturday, May 5th
May 8, 2018– According to the Record-Bee, a major injury hit-and-run collision left a young man in serious condition after being hit while riding his bicycle Saturday night.
The Clearlake Police Department responded to the crash which transpired at roughly 10:15 p.m. on Old Highway 53 near Clement Drive and Mendo Mill Lumber.
Witnesses informed police that a 22-year-old man riding a bicycle northbound on Old Highway was suddenly hit from the rear and badly injured. The young man who has not been identified by name at this was airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial.
He remained in the intensive care unit as of Monday, per the Record-Bee.
Meanwhile, the driver of what police believe to have been an older model Dodge pickup truck did not stop and proceeded to flee the scene leaving the man behind.
Authorities have not located the suspect yet but are certain that damage was incurred to the front of the vehicle and possibly to the passenger side as well.
No further details have been provided as the investigation is ongoing to track down the suspect responsible.
