Nicole Rathmanner, Stacy Mayhood, Troy Hague, Sarah Johnson, and Lotonuu Vaimasanuu Injured in Car Accident
LOCATION: Doyle, CA
DATE OF INCIDENT: Saturday, March 17th
(March 20, 2018)- According to the California Highway Patrol, five vehicles were involved in a chain-reaction collision Saturday evening in Lassen County on Highway 395 near Laver Crossing.
According to CHP officials, the road conditions were severe as black ice coated the road due to freezing temperatures and a result of a recent rainstorm.
Authorities indicated that the collision was triggered by Albert Satteria, 79, a resident of Oregon, who had been driving northbound in a 2000 Ford Excursion before losing control and veering into southbound traffic. His vehicle ultimately collided with a 2017 Toyota Corolla occupied by Nicole Rathmanner, 47, and Stacy Mayhood, 47.
Moments later, a truck carrying a trailer driven by Troy Hague, 49, of Oregon, headed southbound collided with Satteria’s Ford Excursion. Hague’s truck came to rest diagonally obstructing both northbound and southbound lanes before it was struck by Sarah Johnson, 21, of Doyle, who had been headed northbound in a Lexus.
One last vehicle was then involved driven by Lotonuu Vaimasanuu, 25, of Susanville, who had been headed northbound and was unable to avoid a collision. Her vehicle struck Johnson’s Lexus.
Miraculously, there were no fatalities, however, all parties involved were confirmed to have been injured and transported to medical centers for treatment of moderate injuries.
CHP officials do not believe there to have been drugs or alcohol involved.
Based on the information provided in the report, the driver of the 2000 Ford Excursion, Albert Satteria, will likely be held responsible for triggering the collision which caused injuries to himself and five other motorists.
In such cases where negligence or wrongdoing may have been a factor, those injured and not found responsible for the crash may be granted the right to file a personal injury lawsuit against the at-fault party pending the investigation results. Victims would then have the right to seek compensation for damages including medical expenses and hospital bills, pain and suffering, and lost future income.
