WASCO: Carolina Vasquez ID’d in Fatal DUI Crash on Highway 43 and Prospect; Erwin De La Pena Arrested
WASCO, California — According to Bakersfield Now, a deadly DUI car crash took place Wednesday evening at the intersection of Highway 43 and Prospect in Wasco.
The deadly accident happened at around 8:00 p.m. involving three vehicles.
In an article by The Bakersfield Californian, deputies said 51-year-old Erwin De La Pena was driving a Ford Ranger when he turned north on Highway 43.
The Ford went directly into the path of a Honda Civic which was going south at the time. The Civic was then hit by a Ford Expedition headed south on the highway.
The driver of the Civic was found dead in the roadway. Bakersfield Now identified the deceased as 41-year-old Carolina Vasquez.
The motorist in the Expedition, a man in his 20s, was transported to Kern Medical Center with minor injuries.
Meanwhile, De La Pena was determined to have been under the influence and was arrested on suspicion of DUI causing injury or death and failing to yield the right of way,
