Driver of Pickup Truck Seriously Hurt, Big Rig Slams Into Back of Vehicle
HANFORD (May 17, 2018)– According to the California Highway Patrol, a big rig was involved in a violent rear-end collision leaving another motorist badly hurt Thursday just before noon at Excelsior and 9th avenues.
At roughly 11:56 a.m., the driver of a semi-truck apparently failed to notice traffic coming to a halt subsequently plowing into the back of an alleged Chevy pickup truck.
Pickup Truck Driver in Critical Condition
CHP officials confirmed the driver of the Chevy who was not immediately identified suffered major injuries requiring the motorist to be rushed to an emergency room.
There were no apparent injuries sustained by the big rig driver who appeared to have been ok, according to the dispatch report.
Meanwhile, tons of diesel fuel covered the road following the wreck as the Hazardous Materials Response Team responded to the scene to help with the removal of the debris and spillage.
Both vehicles were towed away from the scene.
No further details have been disclosed as authorities remained on scene as of 2:00 p.m.
