A thorough investigation will ensue as photos that were taken of the scene and compiled evidence will help investigators determine the ultimate cause of the collision. Police officials will examine all potential factors including speed, the possible involvement of alcohol or drugs, or whether or not there were any mechanical issues with either vehicle. The investigation will also consist of looking at measurements of evidence left by the vehicles such as point of impact, final resting positions of each vehicle, skid marks, and gouge marks.
In such cases where negligence or wrongdoing may have been a factor, those injured and not found responsible will be entitled to a personal injury lawsuit against the liable driver. Injured victims may seek compensation for damages including medical expenses and hospital bills, as well as pain and suffering.
