Robert Shaffer Killed in Sierraville Crash on Highway 89, Lisa Shaffer and Patrick Shaffer Injured
SIERRAVILLE, Sierra County (April 2, 2017) – A man was killed while his wife and son were injured in head-on crash on Highway 89 Saturday night, according to Reno Gazette-Journal.
The accident involving two vehicles was reported at about 9:29 p.m., just south of Cold Creek Campground.
As per the article, California Highway Patrol said 54-year-old David Slaughter was driving his 1989 Ford F250 south on the highway when for an unknown reason he allowed his vehicle to cross into the northbound lane.
Slaughter then collided head-on with a 2006 Toyota Corolla driven by Robert Shaffer.
CHP said Robert Shaffer was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife Lisa Shaffer was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center while his 22-year-old son, Patrick, was brought to Tahoe Forest Hospital in Truckee. Both suffered minor to moderate injuries in the crash.
Robert Shaffer, also known as Bob, is a former Truckee High School football coach.
Meanwhile Slaughter, of Sacramento, was moderately injured and was airlifted to Renown Regional Medical Center. The Sierra Sun wrote that Slaughter was arrested after the incident which remains under investigation.
