1 Dead, 5 Injured in University City Car Accident
SAN DIEGO (February 3, 2018) – Aaron Kim, 22, of San Diego, was killed and five people were injured Friday, Feb. 2 in a collision at Miramar Road and La Jolla Village Drive, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner.
The collision was reported at 11:42 p.m. when a 15-year-old driver in a silver Toyota sedan was traveling at a high rate of speed down Miramar Road. She reportedly veered to the left and hit the center divider in the roadway just before 6:30 p.m. The vehicle went airborne over the median, overturned and slid head-on into the front of a minivan carrying two adults and two children. Kim, who was an unrestrained passenger in the silver car, was ejected from the vehicle.
Kim was transported to Scripps La Jolla Hospital where he later died of his injuries. The teenage driver suffered a broken leg and lacerations and was also taken to a hospital.
Firefighters had to extricate the two adults from the minivan, but bystanders helped the two children out of the vehicle before they arrived. The woman who was in the minivan suffered at least one fracture and the children suffered minor injuries.
San DiegoAccident Investigation
An investigation into this collision is underway, but it appears that the teenage driver will be held liable for this collision.
If a negligent driver has caused a collision that left you injured or caused the death of a loved one, it’s up to you whether or not to file a civil lawsuit or personal injury or wrongful death claim.
It’s important to note, however, that it’s quite common for insurance companies to try and avoid paying out a claim even when they know their insured is responsible. They may also make an offer to settle for far less than the full amount owed.
