Bicyclist Abel Rodriguez, 20, Killed in Stockton Crash on Wilson Way
STOCKTON (January 22, 2019) – A bicyclist was killed after an alleged DUI crash along Wilson Way on Friday evening, January 18, according to Record Net.
The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as 20-year-old Abel Rodriguez.
As per the article, deputies said the incident began when Rodriguez was riding a bicycle and exited a parking lot of a business on Wilson Way.
The cyclist then started riding across the northbound lanes of Wilson and was struck by a Toyota driven by a suspected drunk driver.
Suspect Jesse Fletes, 24, Arrested For DUI
The car involved was reportedly traveling faster than the posted speed limit north on Wilson Way without its headlights when it hit the rider.
Officials affirmed that Rodriguez succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene. The fatal accident took place at about 6 p.m. near Oak Street.
Meanwhile California Highway Patrol arrested the operator of the Toyota, 24-year-old Jesse Fletes, on suspicion of driving with a suspended license, driving under the influence, and driving with a blood alcohol content level of .08 percent or higher.
