MOUNTAIN PASS, California (Jan. 2, 2017) — Abraham Jones, 79, and his two-month-old infant grandson, Timol Jenkins Jr., both of Las Vegas, were killed in a crash on the 15 Freeway early New Year’s Day, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner.
The crash took place early Sunday morning about 4:50 a.m. Police say Jones was traveling north on the 15 Freeway in a 2015 Nissan Altima when his vehicle was rear-ended by a driver in a 2002 Infinity G35. The Infinity spun out of control and struck the center divider. Jones, whose grandson was seated in the backseat of his vehicle, got out and stood behind the Nissan where he and the car were struck by a third vehicle. A 2006 Toyota Corolla hit the Nissan and both Jones and his grandson were killed.
The California Highway Patrol’s Barstow station is heading up the investigation into the crash and will ultimately determine liability.
