STUDIO CITY, California (June 20, 2016) –– Actor Anton Yelchin was killed Sunday when he was struck by his own car in the driveway of his home after the vehicle rolled backwards down a steep incline and pinned him against a mailbox and fence, according to news reports.
Yelchin died of his injuries about 1:10 a.m. at the scene of the crash in the 3800 block of Berry Drive. The cause of his death was stated to be blunt traumatic asphyxia. The vehicle that struck him is a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, one that is under recall for shifting problems by Fiat Chrysler due to 41 reported injuries. The transmission problems were also an issue with the 2014 Jeep Cherokee models.
“This vehicle is known for having various mechanical problems involving its gear shifting system that have resulted in numerous injuries” said Attorney James Johnson. “It’s important that this vehicle is thoroughly inspected to determine whether this was the cause. ”
Attorney Johnson has sued Fiat Chrysler and other manufacturers on many occasions due to manufacturer defects. The wrongful death lawsuits which need to be filed are normally the only way to make these large corporations change and place the consumers first before their own.
The Russian-born actor moved to the United States with his family as a baby and is perhaps best known for his roles in “Star Trek,” Terminator Salvation,” and “Alpha Dog.”
