LOS ANGELES, California (January 6, 2016) –Actor David Spade was injured Wednesday night when his SUV was struck by an oncoming vehicle on Sunset Boulevard as he attempted to make a left-hand turn, according to TMZ.
The crash took place about 6:40 p.m. in front of the Beverly Hills Hotel.
Spade was allegedly making a turn on a yellow traffic light in his Range Rover SUV when he was struck by another vehicle who he told reporters had allegedly “sped up to beat the yellow light.” The SUV also struck a third vehicle after being hit.
The SUV was heavily damaged in the crash, a rear tire came off and its airbags were deployed.
There were only minor injuries involved and no one was hospitalized.
The crash remains under investigation by police to determine liability.
LIABILITY FOR CAR CRASHES
The above collision involved a driver who was turning left and a traffic light that was allegedly yellow. These are only a few possible facts involved in the case and it leaves many unanswered questions about liability. A driver cannot make a left-hand turn in front of another vehicle unless it is safe to do so. Police will determine which driver had the right-of-way under these circumstances based on interviews with the motorists involved and statements by witnesses. They will also do an on scene investigation into the circumstances. They will potentially rule out whether there were any distractions involved, alcohol or drugs as well.
The driver deemed to be at fault for this collision will be held responsible for the other driver’s losses including injuries and property damages.
