One Killed Two-Vehicle Crash 405 Freeway in Hawthorne
HAWTHORNE, Calif. (Jan. 8, 2020) – Adam Herrera, 35, of Los Angeles, died Tuesday night in a two-vehicle crash on the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway in Hawthorne.
The traffic accident took place about 9:40 p.m. near the Rosecrans Avenue exit.
The collision prompted the closure of all northbound lanes of the 405 San Diego freeway at the Inglewood Avenue on-ramp.
Police directed traffic off the freeway until the lanes later reopened about 1:30 a.m. this morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Herrera was driving a 2009 Honda when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle, spun out and wound up facing the wrong way in the carpool lane.
The lights were reportedly off on the Honda when it was struck by an oncoming 2007 Infiniti that was traveling about 55 mph northbound in the carpool lane.
The Infiniti crashed head-on into the Honda and Herrera suffered fatal injuries.
Meanwhile, two people in the Infiniti suffered pain, but no visible injuries.
Witnesses should call Officer teNyenhuis at the West Los Angeles CHP Office at 310-642-3939.
