COSTA MESA, Calif. (June 18, 2021) – Adam Whalen, 34, of Santa Ana, died in a collision between his motorcycle and an SUV on the Costa Mesa (55) Freeway Wednesday night, the CHP reports.
The young Orange County man suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene, according to the Orange County Sheriff Coroner.
Additionally, the traffic accident happened about 10:11 p.m. on Wednesday, June 16th near the Corona Del Mar (73) Freeway connector and Baker Street on-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol. After colliding into the back of a 2014 Audi SUV in the No. 2 lane, the rider was thrown into traffic lanes where he was struck by multiple motorists, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Meanwhile, witnesses told authorities the motorcyclist was traveling at high speed on the freeway prior to the crash. It’s unknown if the SUV driver changed lanes in front of the bike. However, investigators should be looking into this and will determine fault for the collision. The coroner identified the victim who died as Adam Thomas Whalen on their website.
