2 Killed in San Diego Crash on Rosecrans Street; Several Hurt
SAN DIEGO, CA (May 9, 2022) – Ahmed Mazin Salah Alrawi, 23, and Suad Alsamarai, 81, both died Saturday in a two-vehicle collision at Rosecrans Street and Sports Arena Boulevard in the Midway District of San Diego.
The deadly collision occurred about 9:06 a.m. on May 7th, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner.
The El Cajon man and the El Cajon woman were both riding in the back seat of a 2015 Toyota Sienna that was traveling north on Rosecrans Street. The minivan was approaching Sports Arena Boulevard when it came to a stop at a red light.
Meanwhile, a driver in a 1999 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck was heading westbound at a high rate of speed on Sports Arena Boulevard.
The Tacoma reportedly drove over the raised gore point, bicycle lane and transition lane before it struck a raised median. The pickup went airborne and crashed into the Sienna. Firefighters responded and located both the young man and elderly woman in the back of the Toyota Sienna and pronounced them dead at the scene.
Paramedics transported two others from the van to a hospital with unknown injuries.
However, the 31-year-old man driving the Tacoma survived with broken bones and multiple other injuries.
Police closed down Rosecrans Street and Sports Arena Boulevard for several hours due to the investigation.
