Pedestrian Killed in Victorville DUI Hit-and-Run Collision on 7th Street
VICTORVILLE (May 14, 2020) – An alleged DUI hit-and-run driver killed a pedestrian in a crash along Seventh Street on Wednesday night.
Authorities determined that 38-year-old Alaina Swain was under the influence of alcohol when the fatal May 13 accident occurred shortly after 9:30 p.m.
According to reports by Victor Valley News and The Daily Press, the incident began when Swain was driving a tan Chevrolet Tahoe north on 7th Street.
The Apple Valley woman then veered off the roadway, slammed into several concrete curbs and struck a pedestrian walking on the sidewalk at the time.
San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said the Tahoe ultimately plowed into the Amigo Auto Care business. The shop is located in the 15200 block of the street.
Paramedics responded to the scene and found the pedestrian suffering from major injuries as a result of the collision. They rushed the victim to a local hospital, where they later died.
Suspected Drunk Hit-and-Run Driver ID’d as Alaina Swain, 38
The name of the deceased party has not been yet released pending notification of family. Meanwhile, Swain and her two male passengers in their 20s did not stop to render aid and fled the area.
Authorities ultimately located Swain at her home in Apple Valley and took her to a local hospital to be treated for minor to moderate injuries.
Officers arrested her on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter, DUI and hit-and-run. They booked her at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga with a bail set at $275,000, including bail for a separate case.
Deputies added that Swain has several traffic infractions while the other two men involved are still wanted for questioning. The tragic crash remains under investigation.
