Albano Silveira, 42, Injured in Delhi Crash near North Avenue and Cortez Avenue
DELHI, CA (April 20, 2021) – Albano Silveira was injured after a fatal crash near North Avenue and Cortez Avenue in Delhi.
The California Highway Patrol identified the 42-year-old Stevinson man as the driver of a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe on Monday afternoon.
The incident began when Albano Silveira was towing a trailer south on Cortez Avenue in Delhi. At the same time, a rider of a 2008 Honda CBR1000 was going north, approaching North Avenue.
Albano Silveira told CHP that he noticed the motorcyclist in the distance and thought he had enough time to make a left turn onto North. As a result, he then tried to turn.
Motorcyclist Killed in Delhi Collision
The motorcyclist struck the passenger side of the Chevrolet near the intersection. The Merced Sun-Star reported the wreck on April 19 at about 4:15 p.m.
The rider ended up thrown from his bike and landed between the Chevrolet and the trailer. Both the motorcycle and the Tahoe caught fire following the accident.
Firefighters along with the paramedics responded and evaluated Silveira for the minor injuries he sustained upon impact. He declined hospitalization.
Meanwhile, medical personnel pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene. CHP forced the roadway to shut down for a time after the Delhi crash
The tragic collision is still under investigation.
