Fatal Elk Grove Crash on Interstate 5 Freeway
ELK GROVE, Calif. (Oct. 7, 2019) — Alberto Gerbasio Ruiz Cortes, 27, of Williams, has been identified by the Sacramento coroner as the driver who died Thursday morning in a two-vehicle collision on the 5 Freeway.
Cortes was driving or riding in a black Toyota Prius that collided with a semi-tractor trailer truck on the Interstate 5 Freeway.
The crash was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 7:56 a.m., just south of Elk Grove Boulevard in Elk Grove.
The Prius reportedly crashed into the big rig truck and was blocking the No. 1 lane. Additionally, the CHP report stated that a pickup truck and trailer may have also collided nearby with a black Subaru. It’s unknown if these two vehicles were also part of the initial truck accident.
Cortes died at the scene of the collision. Meanwhile, the Sacramento Fire Department sent paramedics to assist anyone else who was hurt.
The CHP is heading up the investigation.
