Alberto Lopez, 36; and Gregoria Ramirez, 65, Killed in Placentia Crash
PLACENTIA, CA (January 26, 2023) – A DUI crash killed Alberto Lopez and Gregoria Ramirez at Orangethorpe Avenue and Melrose Street in Placentia.
Police identified the man, the woman and a child as victims in the fatal wreck which took place on Wednesday.
The incident happened when Alberto Vincente Lopez, 36; Gregoria Ramirez, 65; and a 10-year-old boy were riding a white van in Placentia. They were traveling south on Melrose Street from a Bible study.
At the same time, a black Honda Civic was going west. Police said the Honda then ran a red light at the intersection with Orangethorpe Avenue.
Boy, 10, Dead in Wreck
In the process, the car slammed into the van driven by a church pastor. The Orange County Register and KTLA News wrote that the collision occurred on January 25 about 8:45 p.m., just east of the 57 Freeway.
Alberto Lopez, of Anaheim; and Gregoria Ramirez, of Placentia, died at the scene of the crash. A total of five individuals ended up hurt as a result of the accident.
Paramedics took three patients to the UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange with serious injuries. Medical personnel rushed two children to the Children’s Hospital Orange County, where they pronounced the 10-year-old dead.
The reports added that several people ended up ejected from the van at the time. Meanwhile, police determined that the male driver of the Civic was under the influence when he hit the victims.
Officers soon arrested the suspect for felony DUI. The Placentia crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information can call the police at 714-993-8157 or the Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS.
