Alejandra Rivas Fernandez Killed in Encino Motorcycle Crash on 101 Ventura Freeway
ENCINO, California (April 28, 2017) — Motorcycle passenger, Alejandra Rivas Fernandez, 20, of Northridge died yesterday when the driver of the bike she was riding on crashed into a car on the westbound 101 Ventura Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal crash took place about 12:45 a.m. Friday morning near Hayvenhurst Avenue. Police say the motorcycle driver was traveling at a high rate of speed when his bike slammed into the back of a black Lexus GS400. The two vehicles burst into flames. The young woman died of her injuries at the scene after she was thrown off the bike and into the path of several vehicles. The 27-year-old motorcycle driver identified as Marcos Valenti of Huntington Park suffered moderate injuries and was hospitalized, but he now faces DUI and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated charges, police said.
The crash remains under investigation by police.
