BELLFLOWER, Calif. (July 19, 2018) – Alex Barragan, 31, of Norwalk, is being charged with two counts of murder after a fiery crash that killed two people Monday in Norwalk, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney.
Barragan has a previous DUI conviction for driving under the influence. He was scheduled to be arraigned in the Bellflower courthouse where he will also face one count each of driving under the influence of alcohol within 10 years of another DUI offense and driving with a 0.08 percent blood-alcohol content causing injury within 10 years of another DUI offense, the Los Angeles District Attorney said.
About 1 a.m. on Monday, July 16th, he allegedly caused a fiery crash on the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway that took the lives of a 19-year-old woman and a 52-year-old man from Paramount. He was driving a 2006 Infiniti M45 sedan in the N0. 3 lane when it collided with a disabled 1999 Ford Winstar occupied by the victims. A 7-year-old girl and a 22-year-old woman in the van were also injured as well as Barragan’s 22-year-old female passenger, police said.
Police say his blood-alcohol level was 0.20 or more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent.
Traffic Accident Investigation
At this time, the at-fault driver is likely going to be held criminally liable for his actions, but the families of the two who died and those who were hurt may also file a separate personal injury or wrongful death claim.
While this is always a personal decision, for many the financial losses associated with a traffic accident are significant.
