Alex Garcia, 31, ID’d as Suspect in Tulare Fatal DUI Crash
TULARE, CA (February 21, 2023) – Authorities detained Alex Garcia after a fatal DUI crash at J Street and Cartmill Avenue in Tulare.
Police determined that the 31-year-old Tulare man was under the influence of alcohol when the wreck took place on Monday.
The incident began when Alex Garcia was traveling at a high rate of speed west on Cartmill Avenue, toward J Street, in Tulare. He then ran a red traffic signal at the intersection.
Police said in the process, the speeding car broadsided another vehicle. The ABC 30 News and Your Central Valley wrote the collision occurred on February 20 at about 3:48 p.m.
Man, 37, Killed in Wreck
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and pronounced the driver of the broadsided car, a 37-year-old man, dead at the scene of the accident.
The name of the deceased victim has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin. Meanwhile, police arrested Alex Garcia on suspicion of felony DUI following the crash.
Officers booked him into the South Tulare County Detention Facility for voluntary manslaughter, and other outstanding warrants, including a previous DUI.
Officials forced the area of J and Cartmill to shut down for hours following the wreck. The Tulare DUI crash is still under investigation.
