DUI Driver Struck Bike on Orangethorpe Avenue
FULLERTON, Calif. (June 14, 2024) — Alexander Marce, 28, of Anaheim, died in a motorcycle accident Wednesday on Orangethorpe Avenue and Gilbert Street in Fullerton.
Police arrested the other driver, Francisco Garcia-Vargas, 44, on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence and driving without a license.
The defendant also allegedly ran a red light at above 100 mph and police determined the driver had a blood-alcohol content almost three times the legal limit.
The two-vehicle collision occurred at around 9:45 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12th, according to KTLA 5 News and the Fullerton Police Department.
The motorcyclist was stopped at a red light in the eastbound lanes of Orangethorpe Avenue at Gilbert Street. That’s when Garcia-Vargas, who was driving a 1999 BMW 323i sedan, rear-ended the Harley Davidson motorcycle at the intersection.
The rider was thrown off the bike into the roadway. However, the driver of the other vehicle continued traveling eastbound, dragging the motorcycle underneath the vehicle for several hundred feet. A good Samaritan managed to stop the motorist and someone called 911 for help.
Meanwhile, the motorcyclist died at the intersection following the crash.
Finally, the Fullerton Police Department is heading up the investigation into the motorcycle crash on Orangethorpe Avenue.
