Alexis Barragan, 22, Killed in Cypress Crash on Katella Avenue; Suspected DUI Driver Arrested
CYPRESS, California (April 16, 2017) –Alexis Barragan, 22, has died and three others were injured early Sunday morning following a multi-vehicle collision involving a suspected drunken driver at Katella Avenue and Valley View Street, according to a report by the Orange County Sheriff Coroner and the Long Beach Press Telegram.
The crash took place about 12:40 a.m. this morning, near Valley View Street. Barragan was a passenger in Nicholas Sanchez-McCormick’s vehicle. Sanchez-McCormick was heading westbound on Katella Avenue when he allegedly drove through a red traffic light at the intersection. His vehicle crashed into two other motorists who were heading north and south on Valley View Street, police said.
Barragan died of her injuries at the scene of the crash, but her driver Sanchez-McCormick was arrested by police on suspicion of manslaughter and felony intoxicated driving. He is being held on $100,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned in court on Tuesday at the Central Jail branch of the Orange County Superior Court.
Paramedics transported three others from the two other vehicles to a hospital as a precaution, but their injuries were not disclosed.
