Driver Killed in Irvine Crash is Identified
IRVINE, Calif. (May 15, 2024) – Allen Yangkaou Lee, 67, of Irvine, died Monday night, just days after a crash on Thursday on Culver Drive at Trabuco Road in Irvine.
The rollover collision occurred at around 4:30 p.m. on May 9th, according to the Irvine Police Department and KTLA 5 News.
Authorities are now searching for a driver in a Honda Civic who reportedly drove through a red traffic light at the intersection and made a right turn from Trabuco Road onto north Culver Road. The Honda allegedly pulled out in front of the victim’s 2004 Toyota Corolla sedan, the report said.
The victim was driving his Toyota northbound on Culver Road towards Trabuco Road when the collision occurred. Witnesses say they saw Allen Yangkaou Lee swerve to avoid hitting the Honda. The Toyota overturned onto its roof and its driver sustained major injuries, but the driver in the Honda failed to stop.
Allen Yangkaou Lee Identified as Crash Victim
Paramedics transported the 67-year-old Irvine man to a hospital where he later died on Monday night from his injuries. He was later identified by the Orange County Sheriff Coroner as Allen Yangkaou Lee.
Investigators have dashboard camera footage from the victim’s car. They are working to locate the suspect who was driving a silver or beige 2008 to 2011 Honda Civic or Civic Hybrid. The vehicle had “unique racing-style decals on the lower doors.”
