LIVE OAK, Calif. (June 12, 2023) — Allyson Nohelia Navarro-Salazar, 21, of Gridley, and a 1-year-old baby, both died in a crash with a suspected DUI driver on Highway 99 in Live Oak.
A 23-year-old Gridley man, who was a passenger in the car driven by Navarro-Salazar and the baby, suffered major injuries in the traffic accident.
The two-vehicle collision occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 10th, at Paseo Road, according to the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office.
The second driver who is believed to be driving under the influence of drugs and or alcohol, CBS News Sacramento reported. Additionally, that motorist was reportedly fleeing an earlier crash involving property damage only. The driver was traveling southbound on Highway 99 and the car driven by Navarro-Salazar was heading northbound.
Investigators believe the suspect in the second car veered across double yellow lines and side-swiped a vehicle before crashing into the one driven by Navarro-Salazar. A fourth vehicle also hit one of the two vehicles involved in the head-on crash.
The suspect who allegedly caused the crash suffered moderate injuries.
Also, the driver in the fourth vehicle was treated for minor injuries.
Investigators continue to piece together what happened.
