Woman Killed in Wrong-Way Crash Identified
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. (Sept. 10, 2024) — Alma Teresa Alcorta Del Lazaro, 53, of Santa Maria, died, and Cecilio L. Camacho was injured in a crash with a wrong-way driver Sunday on Highway 101 in Santa Maria.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Bureau identified the victim.
The deadly collision occurred at 5:14 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8th, just south of Betteravia Road, according to Noozhawk.
CHP officials reported a woman driving a 2020 Mazda CX-9 was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 101 when the car collided with a white 1998 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, just north of Los Alamos.
Cecilio L. Camacho, 63, of Santa Maria, was driving the pickup and became trapped in his vehicle and critically injured. Unfortunately, his female passenger is the one who suffered fatal injuries.
Paramedics from Santa Maria and Santa Barbara County responded and extricated Camacho before taking him to Marian Regional Medical Center.
Meanwhile, the woman driving the Mazda in the wrong direction was also critically injured and taken to a hospital. Kendra Cordova, 34, of Santa Maria, was placed under arrest following the crash.
She was later booked in the Santa Barbara County Jail and faces charges of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI of drugs or alcohol causing great bodily injury. Her bail was set at $100,000.
The case remains under investigation.
