Alonso Pina, 22, ID’d as Wrong-Way Street Racing Driver in Chula Vista Fatal Crash
CHULA VISTA, CA (June 7, 2021) – Authorities detained Alonso Pina after a fatal wrong-way street racing crash in Chula Vista.
Police identified the 22-year-old man as one of the suspects that killed a woman and injured children on Saturday evening, June 5.
The incident began when Alonso Pina was racing with a Subaru WRX on L Street in Chula Vista. His 2010 Ford Mustang was traveling east in the westbound lane, approaching Third Avenue, at the time.
Alonso Pina then ran a red light at the intersection and slammed head-on into a Nissan Altima. The two cars behind the Nissan hit the Altima and soon collided with each other.
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and pronounced the woman driving the Nissan dead at the scene. Officers identified her as 57-year-old San Diego resident Martha Bertha Villalobos Romo.

Her passengers, her two grandchildren ages 7 and 10, sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision. The young boys were rushed to a hospital for treatment.
Medical personnel also took Alonso Pina with non-life-threatening injuries. Police arrested and booked him into jail for vehicular manslaughter.
Meanwhile, the driver of the 2014 or newer white Subaru WRX fled the area. The Chula Vista street racing crash is still under investigation.
