1 Killed, 2 Injured in Alpine Crash on Interstate 8 Near Tavern Road
ALPINE, CA (June 3, 2021) – A car crash killed one person and seriously injured three others on the Interstate 8 in Alpine.
A black GMC Sierra pickup and a black Toyota Solara sedan collided for an unknown reason. The two crashed on the westbound Interstate 8 near Tavern Road.
Both cars rolled over into the shrub-covered median. The California Highway Patrol said one of them caught fire upon impact.
2 Cars Collide, Roll Over on Thursday
The truck continued, plunged down the embankment and came to a stop in the eastbound lanes. A female passenger in the back seat ended up thrown from the GMC as a result of the collision.
Firefighters along with the paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene. The male driver and the female front seat passenger of the Sierra and the male motorist in the Toyota sustained major injuries following the incident.
Medical personnel rushed all three patients to the Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego for treatment. The names of the deceased and wounded victims have not been yet released.
Meanwhile, CHP forced the two lanes of the eastbound Interstate 8 and one westbound lane to shut down after the wreck. The cause of the fatal Alpine crash is still under investigation.
