Pedestrian Killed by Hit-and-Run Vehicle in South LA
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Nov. 22, 2021) – Alvaro Quinones, 52, died in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident while crossing Western Avenue in the Chesterfield Square area of South Los Angeles.
The victim was identified by the Los Angeles County Sheriff Coroner as a homeless man.
Authorities say Quinones was crossing Western Avenue about 5 a.m., just north of 65th Street. A northbound sedan struck him in the roadway, but its driver failed to stop and help the victim, according to a Los Angeles Police Department statement.
A second northbound vehicle struck the victim while he was lying in the roadway, police said. The man became lodged underneath the vehicle, police said. The driver in the second vehicle stopped immediately and attempted to help the badly-injured man.
Sadly, despite efforts made at the scene, Alvaro Quinones was pronounced dead before he could be taken to a hospital.
Meanwhile, investigators say the hit-and-run vehicle was a white, early model, medium-sized sedan with tinted windows. Police do not have a description at this time of the driver.

The city of Los Angeles has a reward of up to $50,000 is available for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of a hit-and-run driver.
