Teenage Passenger Killed in Santa Cruz Crash
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (April 16, 2021) — Alyssa Roman, 19, died in a car crash early April 14th on the Morrissey Boulevard exit from Highway 1, according to the Santa Cruz Cruz County Coroner’s Office.
The 19-year-old San Jose woman rode as a passenger in a car driven by suspected DUI driver.
Richard Quihuis Jr., 19, of San Jose, crashed the 2004 Toyota Camry just before 2 a.m. on Wednesday, April 14th, leaving Alyssa Roman with fatal injuries and two other passengers hurt.
Meanwhile, police arrested Quihuis on multiple charges including suspicion of felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. He also faces charges of felony hit and run and felony evading police. Paramedics treated him for minor injuries he got in the crash.
As of Thursday, the suspect was being held in lieu of $150,000 bail at Santa Cruz County Jail.
