Amanda Smith, 34, Killed in Fresno Head-On Crash on Highway 180

FRESNO COUNTY, CA (April 11, 2021) – Amanda Smith was killed after a head-on crash along Highway 180 in Fresno.

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified the 34-year-old Sanger woman as the victim in the fatal wreck on Saturday afternoon.

The incident happened on April 10 when Amanda Smith was driving an Audi SUV west on Highway 180 in Fresno. A Ford Focus was also traveling the same direction.

For an unknown reason, the right rear tire of a GMC Yukon blew out. The GMC was going east on the highway, approaching DeWolf Avenue, at the time.

The California Highway Patrol said Yukon spun out of control and then crossed the center median. In the process, the vehicle struck the Audi and the Ford head-on.

Firefighters along with the paramedics responded and pronounced Amanda Smith dead at the scene. According to The Fresno Bee and FOX 26 News, officers reported the accident at about 4:45 p.m.

The driver of the GMC and the operator of the Focus sustained major injuries as a result of the collision. Medical personnel rushed both men to the Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Meanwhile, CHP forced the Highway 180 to shut down for a time following the Fresno crash. The cause of the tragic wreck is still under investigation.
