Woman Arrested on DUI Charges after Fatal Head-on Crash
FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (Nov. 11, 2020) —Amber Sexton, 33, was arrested on DUI charges Tuesday night after a head-on collision on Highway 41 near Riverdale.
Sexton was driving a rented U-Haul pickup truck when she crashed into a Honda Civic and killed a 23-year-old Caruthers man.
Police arrested Sexton for driving under the influence after the fatal crash in Fresno County, according to ABC30 Action News.
The California Highway Patrol stated the white U-Haul pickup truck driven by Sexton was heading southbound on Highway 41. For unknown reasons, she allegedly crossed over into the northbound lane. An oncoming vehicle managed to swerve out of the way and avoid crashing with the pickup truck, but instead crashed into a fence.
Caruthers Man, 23, Killed on Highway 41
Unfortunately, the U-Haul rental truck crashed head-on into a blue Honda Civic driven by the Caruthers man.
The driver in the Honda suffered major injuries and was airlifted to a Fresno hospital where he later died. Meanwhile, a third vehicle was struck in the aftermath of the collision. Police say that driver was uninjured.
After the crash, Sexton was hospitalized for moderate injuries before she was arrested, the CHP said.
The highway was closed for several hours on Tuesday night.
