Woodlake Man Killed in Solo Vehicle Crash in Snelling
MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (Aug. 3, 2018) — A 59-year-old Woodlake resident Ampelio Contreras who was a passenger in a vehicle died in a solo collision Thursday night on La Grange Road, just north of Merced Falls Road in Snelling, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The man was in a vehicle driven by Eduardo Ruiz-Rosales, 48, of Tulare. Ruiz-Rosales reported was driving the 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck at about 5 p.m. when he drifted into opposing traffic as he failed to negotiate a right curve in the roadway. The vehicle was traveling at 40 mph when it went off the roadway and overturned multiple times down a steep embankment. The vehicle struck several large trees on its way.
The 63-year-old passenger died and Ruiz-Rosales had a minor laceration on his head.
Police stated that both vehicle occupants were wearing their seat belts.
Traffic Accident Investigation
At this time, it appears that the driver of the vehicle is at fault for his passenger’s death.
