Passenger Ampelio Contreras, 59, Victim in Rollover Crash
DATE OF COLLISION: Thursday, August 2nd
August 3, 2018- According to the Merced Sun-Star, a deadly solo vehicle rollover crash was reported during the early evening on last night on La Grange Road near Merced Falls Road.
At roughly 5:00 p.m., the driver of 2006 Chevy pickup ID’d as Eduardo Ruiz-Rosales, 48, of Tulare, had been headed southbound accompanied by passenger Ampelio Contreras, 59, of Woodlake. For unknown reasons, Ruiz-Rosales allowed his vehicle to begin drifting over into northbound traffic lanes and jerked the steering wheel to avoid a collision which caused the pickup to veer off the road and rollover down an embankment.
Ampelio Contreras was tragically pronounced dead at the scene, per the article.
Meanwhile, Ruiz-Rosales sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital via ambulance.
California Highway Patrol officials confirmed both men were wearing seatbelts and that neither drugs or alcohol were factors.
